On August 20th, Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Museum, currently under development in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, is set to open on October 2nd. The museum will showcase a wide range of the company’s products, including various game consoles. Additionally, it will feature interactive experience corners, a café, and a store offering exclusive merchandise. Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in a workshop on making Hanafuda cards, a nod to the company’s origins.
The museum will be open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, with closures on Tuesdays (except for public holidays, in which case it will close the following Wednesday) and during the New Year holidays (December 30th to January 3rd). Tickets will be available through a lottery system, with draws held on the first of each month for tickets two months in advance. Any remaining tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission prices are set at 3,300 yen for adults (18 and over), 2,200 yen for junior and senior high school students, 1,100 yen for elementary school students, and free for preschool-aged children.
Many of the mini-games offer unique experiences by altering the scale, such as “Big Controller,” where two players use oversized versions of classic hardware controllers, and “Game & Watch SP,” where players control the game on a pocket-sized LCD console using shadows.
To participate in these experiences, you’ll need “coins.” Each visitor receives 10 coins upon entering the museum, but the number of coins required varies depending on the mini-game. However, it’s important to note that 10 coins won’t be enough to experience all the exhibits.
